Outward Bound is an educational charity that uses the outdoors to help young people discover more about themselves and develop key life skills such as resilience, confidence and teamwork. Our mission is to inspire young people to be more than they think they can be by taking them on challenging, adventurous experiences in wild places. Outward Bound courses link closely with school subjects like Geography, Physical Education, Geology and History. In Geography, students apply map-reading, navigation and fieldwork skills while exploring natural landscapes. Physical Education is embedded through physically demanding activities that build fitness, coordination and perseverance. Geology comes alive through hands-on learning in real environments, studying rock formations, landforms and natural processes. History is explored through the cultural and industrial heritage of the local area, often connected to landscapes shaped by human activity. We work with schools across the UK to offer curriculum-based outdoor learning experiences that engage students and support academic and personal development.
