Curriculum links: PSHE, Careers
Location: In school (visiting session)
Suitable for: KS1 & KS2
Time: 1–2 hour sessions (flexible)

Eden Valley Hospice are offering engaging, interactive sessions to help pupils understand the role of a hospice and the different careers within their team.

During the visit, pupils will be introduced to healthcare and support roles in an accessible way, with the opportunity to explore specialist equipment and resources used by hospice teams to support children with additional needs.

As part of the session, pupils can take part in meaningful memory-based activities, including:

  • Creating a class memory tree, where each child adds a happy memory
  • Painting memory stones to display in the school environment
  • Group discussions about memories, feelings and shared experiences

These activities are linked to the work of Jigsaw, Eden Valley Hospice’s children’s service, where creating positive and lasting memories is an important part of supporting children and families. Pupils will also explore how activities can be adapted so all children can take part.

This is a valuable opportunity to explore empathy, inclusion and caring professions, while helping pupils understand the importance of community and support in a sensitive and age-appropriate way.
