SUPPORTING CAREER RELATED LEARNING TO ALL PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN WEST CUMBRIA

PUPILS FROM VICTORIA JUNIOR SCHOOL PREPARE FOR THE WORLD OF WORK

The year 6 pupils at Victoria Junior School, Workington took part in a STEM Aspiration session. Volunteers from Sellafield, John McCurrie, James Sant and Rachel Tate , and Scott Sowerby from Energus and Claire Johnson from the Primary Business Partnership shared their career journey’s with the children.

From chopping vegetables, delivering papers, fixing computers to working as a stage rigger the children heard about the varied careers that the volunteers had done to date. Volunteers also talked about their hobbies and how playing football and rugby can teach you valuable skills, like team work and good communication, that can be used in whichever career path you choose.

The children heard from Apprentices currently starting out in their careers to volunteers with many years of experience who had done a diverse range of jobs during their careers. They learnt that sometimes life changes and we may not always be successful in everything that we do. However the sky is the limit, you need to have a go and dare to DREAM BIG but make sure you have fun along the way!
