Volunteers from Honister Slate Mine visited Dearham Primary School to share their passion about what it is they do.

What fillings do you like in your sandwiches? Peanut butter, ham, cheese, or a volcanic slate filling?! Well this is what Tori Jones & Georgie Wilkinson-Weir of Honister Slate mine, considered when they delivered a fun engaging, hands on session with Yr5 at Dearham Primary School.

The children explored how the geology of our Lakes is made and what is particular to Honister Green Slate. They looked at the make-up of our local area, what you can and can’t find in the rock and what you can use it for.

Honister offers an exciting learning experience that combines careers from history, how they have been able to continue into modern times and exciting initiatives that have developed the business and created a sustainable future.

A fun and informative time was had by all!
