MEGA STUFF AS HONISTER GOES INTO GOSFORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL

MEGALITHIC – Mega/ Great this is what some of the yr 3 & 4 pupils at Gosforth Primary School described the session given by the Honister Slate lady as some of the staff described Tori!

But the pupils weren’t fooled by the components and make-up of the slate and it’s filling. No cheese, ham, or peanut butter filings here when we looked at Megalithic Sandwich Fillings! They worked out from the Geology and Geography what the slate was made up of, it’s age and it’s use past, present and future.

As for Fools Gold, there was no pulling the wool over the eyes of these bright students they did work out that unfortunately there is not ‘Gold’ in them ‘Hills’ just good quality slate that is still as prestigious today as it was in the past.

A great, fun, hands on learning experience had by all. Some budding palaeontologists, historians, manufacturers, and lots of other great aspirations to be had. As for our group photo shot, we didn’t shout ‘cheese’, but 1,2,3… ‘Slate!’

A BIG thanks to Tori from Honister Slate Mine and to Gosforth for welcoming us into their school.

If you’d like to find out more about other sessions for your school, do get in touch.
