SUPPORTING CAREER RELATED LEARNING TO ALL PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN WEST CUMBRIA

Frizington schools Dream BIG together!

Frizington Community Primary School Year 6 pupils were joined by Arlecdon Primary School and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School on 24th January for a fantastic Dream BIG workshop!

The session welcomed volunteers Claire Bryant from the Outdoor Partnership, Dave Cryer, local author, and Sue Shepherd and Mark Dobson from Nuclear Waste Services.

As well as helping the students to increase their career aspirations, the pupils found out what it’s like to be a Project Manager, an Outdoor Activity Development Officer, Community Engagement Co-ordinator and an author. They also gained an understanding of what skills they might need to work in all these roles – to work in Community Engagement you’ve got to have excellent communication skills!

They even got to have a go at map-reading and trying a VR headset!

Angela Airey, Assistant Head Teacher at Frizington Community Primary School said:

“Childhood aspirations are an important driver of achievement later in life. They provide all of us with a sense of purpose, motivation, and direction in life”.

This Dream Big session was organized by Primary Business Partnership, delivered by the Centre for Leadership Performance, generously funded by OneAIM JV, and Sellafield Ltd SiX.
