SUPPORTING CAREER RELATED LEARNING TO ALL PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN WEST CUMBRIA

Dreaming BIG at Frizington Primary School

Representatives from a range of local businesses brought careers and job titles to life when they visited Frizington Primary School on 30th October to speak with their year 5 & 6 students. This was the school’s Dream Big – Aspirations day and is the result of the Primary Business Partnership, an initiative set up by OneAIM that is intended to inspire the next generation of young people by linking primary schools throughout Allerdale and Copeland with local business people, to help light ambition in young minds while also underlining the hard work needed to achieve success in any field.

Sarah Glass from the Primary Business Partnership played host for the event and got the event off to a lively start by asking children to match the people in front of them with their careers.

Local business representatives supporting the day included:

• Emma Rydal – Owner of Laa’l Marra Productions and Actor

• Melanie Wheatley – A freelance Photographer and videographer

• Paul Wilson – NSG Environmental

• Dominic Farrell -NSG Consulting

The children had a chance to question the speakers and find out more about their fascinating careers following presentations from all the speakers.

The strong message that the children got from the session was that working hard is the only way to achieve your goals, that attitude and aptitude went along way and that it isn’t all about academic success. Everyone can follow their dreams and different pathways to get there and realise they can choose what they want to do and with hard work and perseverance, they will get there.
