SUPPORTING CAREER RELATED LEARNING TO ALL PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN WEST CUMBRIA

Before the Lockdown….

A week before all of our lives changed and we entered lockdown the Primary Business Partnership team helped deliver workshops to over 230 children at the Cockermouth and Cleator Moor Science Cluster events.

Primary school children from 16 different schools took part in workshops delivered by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Kaefer, Cavendish Nuclear, Institute of Physics, Energus Cyber Security Apprentices, Sellafield Limited, OneAim and Jacobs.

The children learnt what skills were required to become an engineer through designing scaffold towers and bridges, explored what it was like to be a code breaker, discovered different types of radiation and how difficult it is to complete simple tasks using a glove box, along with a host of other exciting scientific concepts via hands on workshops and activities.

Some of the children who attended said:

“It was good the best part was ALL OF IT!”; “Very amazing and fun and inspired me”; and, “I thought that it was really cool and awesome”

A couple of the teachers said:

“The children really enjoyed the event.  They learnt how to apply knowledge to practical experiments.”, ‘They loved it. Applied own knowledge and learnt new concepts.”

Both of the science events were fantastic and we thought it was important to celebrate the learning and thank all of the children and volunteers who helped to make these events such a great success.

I hope that we can start running these events soon………

Now more than ever we want to support the schools and businesses and help to continue to build the resilience and raise the aspirations of our children. So we’ve been thinking of new ways to help to do this.

We are developing our website every day so keep a look out for new resources and information to help support the schools and to see how you or your company can still support our local Primary school children during lockdown.

Please get in touch if you have any resources or ideas you’d like to share or need help developing. If you’re a school who needs support in a particular area or a specific request please get in touch.
