SUPPORTING CAREER RELATED LEARNING TO ALL PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN WEST CUMBRIA

All Saints Pupils Dream Big with Local Volunteers

On 15th January 2024 the Y6 children at All Saints’ CE Primary School were joined by Lucy Dunn from Lake District Wildlife, Sharon Platt from Sellafield Ltd, Teddy Waning from Nuclear Waste Services and Jordan Tyson from Gleeson Homes, a former pupil at All Saints School!

The children learnt about the skills and qualifications needed to work in Engineering, and roles such as a Nuclear Scientific Apprentice, a Land Manager, and Education & Marketing Co-ordinator.

They even got to ask questions to and learnt about the difference between an apprenticeship and a university degree, as well as learning about nuclear waste, a tortoise and the environmental considerations that have to be factored into a new housing development!

Ashley Ryan, Deputy Headteacher and Year 6 Class Teacher said:

“Even at a young age, career workshops are incredibly valuable as they help the children to develop as global citizens. They provide an insight into how school learning transfers into the wider world and also increase awareness about the variety of professions and industries present in our local area.”

This Dream Big session was organized by Primary Business Partnership, delivered by the Centre for Leadership Performance, generously funded by OneAIM JV, and Sellafield Ltd SiX.
