The sun was shining down on the pupils of St James’ Church of England Junior School last month when over 50 children visited West Lakes Science Park, Whitehaven.
During a fun filled day, the children spent time with KAEFER doing the Scaffold the World challenge. The children went through the tender process of a scaffolding project looking at different job roles at KAEFER. Elizabeth Atkinson and her team, supported the children with their design, purchasing, budgeting, health and safety and project management skills.
While the sun shined the children learnt about the harnessing of solar and wind power on the BEC STEAM Trail and with the help of IPADs navigated their way around the out door trail exploring the relationship between Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths in every-day life.
Communication and team work were key when it came to working with some of the business volunteers at WOOD PLC. The children had to create a bridge that would hold a cup of water, with some careful planning, problem solving and project management the children embraced the challenge and some even succeeded in supporting 3 cups of water – no limits to the challenge here!
