SUPPORTING CAREER RELATED LEARNING TO ALL PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN WEST CUMBRIA

Montreal CofE Primary School – Drawing My Dreams

The children at Montreal CofE Primary School, Cleator Moor have been involvedĀ in the Primary Business Partnerships SkillsBlox programme to help raise aspirations within the children.Ā  They have been joined by positiveĀ role models from local organisations to showcase their companies and talk to the children about theirĀ jobs and the skills they need to do them.
The whole school got creative and drew theirĀ ‘My Crests’, an activity to get them to think of things they are good at and think about the skills they need to do those activities.
Next the EYFS and KS1 children at Montreal CofE Primary School, Cleator Moor were joined by Jon Fell, Osprey Management Group; Kasey Grainger, Cumbria Fire and Rescue and Ed Gardener and Conner McFarlane from Sellafield Ltd as part of the Primary Business Partnerships SkillsBlox programme.Ā  This session helps challenge stereotypes in careers, helping children explore the opportunities open to them regardless of age, gender, social background, disability etc…
The Y5’s were then joined by Elizabeth Atkinson, KAEFER and Cathy Grubba, West Cumbria Rivers Trust for an Animal Me workshop.Ā  The children undertook a personality quiz to help them understand that everyone is different and to help recognise strengths and qualities in themselves and others and relate these to potential future career paths.
Then finally the Y5’s and Y6’s were joined by Marc Goodwin, Mott MacDonald; Cathy Grubba, West Cumbria Rivers Trust; Kimberley Robson and Andromeda de Guzman for the Dream Big Workshop.Ā  This session culminated in the Whitehaven Town Crier (Marc) proclaiming the children’s successes in 20 years time……..We are looking forward to seeing if the Astronaut, the footballers, the teachers, the lawyers and all the children at Montreal Primary get to achieveĀ their DREAMS.
